Artist Spotlight — Adam Fryda
Adam has been creating art for decades, and 8 years ago he took the plunge to follow his path of artistry full time. He has done a myriad of mediums, from freelance illustrations, to pet portraits, to bronze sculpture. He first discovered NFTs on a Steamit blog article in 2018, and through that article was onboarded very early to SuperRare with his first mint in February 2019.
“I wanted to do something that was unsubtle, because the time for subtly has gone out the window.”
Where the Sea Meets the Sky
A Common Mission
We asked Adam about how his personal mission aligns with that of the Wolf Society, and that’s when we discovered Adam has been a long time advocate for raising awareness for Climate change. He attended university in the 1990s where he obtained a degree in Ecology, the study of living and non living environments, food chains, & habitats.
For 22 years he dedicated his life to the cause as an educator. The last 8 years of his teaching career he was a Chester’s Zoo in their education department spreading awareness through the youth programs.
When Adam joined the NFT scene he immediately began taking part in various web 3 fundraising efforts with raffles, giveaways and charity auctions. He didn’t hesitate to contact the Wolf Society directly when he saw the first collection being talked about on Twitter, very reminiscent to how he found SuperRare.
First Charity Work
His first charity involvement was back in his uni days doing canvassing for conservation charities. This was a hard sell back then as most people really didn’t know anything about it at that time. The 90s was really when awareness began to take hold. So going out and speaking to people often shocked them.
The main issues were about rainforest deforestation but few were talking about climate change.
“I was teaching about fossil fuels, and climate change, and hardly anyone knew about it then.”
Why Charity Work is Important
Understanding the connection between fossil fuels, global warming, and mass extinctions are all tied together. Ensuring people understand these connections is how we will make a difference. When he saw the Wolf Society initiative on Twitter he immediately contacted the WSF to see how he could help.
Leaving a Legacy
When we asked him what kind of legacy he’d like to leave behind he responded a simple one,
“I’d like to be remembered as a good father, husband and generally good person. If I can leave the world a little better than I found it through educating others, or with my artwork, then that will be enough.”
And they shall inherit the Earth…
“I wanted to do something that was unsubtle, because the time for subtly has gone out the window.”
This shows us where we are heading, and nearly where we are now.
“And they shall inherit the Earth…” is a bible quote, and it’s supposed to be rapturous. But instead we see an oil rig in the distance, raging forest fires, and the starving polar bear bleeding out into reality to beg you to just take action. He’s bleeding, and the blood is oil black.
